Katekyo Hitman Reborn~ Ciaosu

Reborn! is about a boy, Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada, who is chosen to become a Mafia Boss. Tsuna unwillingly undergoes training from Reborn, a hitman from Italy. Timoteo a.k.a. "Vongola IX," the head of the Vongola Family, sent Reborn to train Tsuna; the first Vongola boss moved to Japan, and Tsuna was his great-great-great grandson; the other candidates for the position of the head of the Vongola family died. Enrico, who was the leading candidate to become "Vongola X", died in a gun battle. Massimo, the second, "sleeps with the fishes." Federico, the favored son, was found as a pile of bones. For these reasons, Tsuna is the only remaining heir.

Reborn's main instrument of choice in teaching Tsuna is the "Dying Will Bullet" ("Deathperation Shot" in the English versions), which will make the person be "reborn" with a stronger self intent on fulfilling his dying will.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya follows the high school life of Haruhi Suzumiya, a young and very active high school girl, and those who are caught up in her antics. While Haruhi is the central character to the plot, the story is told from the point of view of Kyon, one of Haruhi's classmates.
Kyon is an ordinary freshman high school student who has recently given up his fantasies of espers, time travelers, and aliens as he left middle school.When he chooses to speak to Haruhi, he unwittingly sets off a chain of events which drag him into surreal situations; he is drawn further into a world eerily like the fantasies he had just managed to outgrow, with Haruhi at its center.
Searching for a group that interests her, Haruhi joins and quits every club in the school, finding only dissatisfaction. Kyon makes a snide remark about her actions and accidentally provides Haruhi the inspiration to create a club of her own. To help start the club, Haruhi forcefully drafts Kyon, who only stays in the club to protect other helpless victims of Haruhi's "voluntary arrests". As the story progresses, Kyon finds that each of these supposedly "helpless victims" has a specific reason to be there.
The first of these new members is Yuki Nagato, a silent bibliophile who usually wants to simply be left alone to read. Without Haruhi knowing, Yuki is in fact a "humanoid interface," or an artificial human, created by the extraterrestrial Integrated Data Entity. The next member is the shy and timid Mikuru Asahina, who is one year above Haruhi; she is actually a time traveler. The final member of the SOS Brigade is Itsuki Koizumi, who is almost always smiling and more than willing to give in to Haruhi's strange demands. He turns out to be one of many espers in an organization known as the Agency.
Except for Kyon, the members of the club are secret agents of various organizations who are sent to observe Haruhi. They gradually explain that Haruhi has superhuman control over every aspect of the universe—an ability which she is unaware of. Whenever Haruhi becomes bored or otherwise dissatisfied with reality, she unconsciously creates a new universe—one more to her liking—and attempts to switch over, thus leading to the destruction of the current universe. In order to prevent this, the members of Haruhi's club spend their time attempting to keep their god-like leader entertained, hold her powers in check, and maintain the illusion of a normal life.
The series never clarifies whether the club members gathered around Haruhi by their own free will, her subconscious, or were simply created out of thin air for Haruhi's amusement. The question of their origin is a motif seen throughout the series.

Main Characters

Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮 ハルヒ, Suzumiya Haruhi)
At first, Haruhi seems very indifferent and cold but underneath that front she is very spontaneous, upbeat, and hyperactive. Her determination, persistence, and resourcefulness drive her endeavors of finding strange phenomenon and promoting the SOS Brigade. Because of her dedication, she becomes hot-headed when things don't go her way. Hand-in-hand with her cleverness and creativity, and a certain ruthlessness, even seeming amorality, she can often get what she wants, an example of such is when she blackmailed the Computer Society President into giving her a brand new computer for the SOS Brigade. Haruhi tends to pursue her goals regardless of who gets in the way, or is hurt, such as Mikuru in the aforementioned blackmail. Right and wrong seem immaterial. She also has a tendency to be jealous and angry when Kyon gets too friendly with any girl. Evidently, the universe was almost destroyed and recreated when Haruhi's jealousy was pushed too far.
Haruhi also has a very competitive personality and accepts without hesitation any challenge that crosses her, regardless of difficulty or time constraint. Her constant optimism and over-confidence make her rather arrogant. She has very high standards and won't accept anything less than perfection from herself and her Brigade. She places a lot of trust in her Brigade members, especially Kyon, to get the task done whatever it may be.
She is not shy and often attracts a lot of attention to the point of not minding changing clothes in front of various people, more so when her SOS Brigade is in mind. When it comes to Mikuru she is very physically playful. She often comments on Mikuru's attractiveness and seems to find a kind of enjoyment in exploiting it to her own ends, often through forcing Mikuru into and out of various costumes such as a bunny girl costume as if she were a human dress-up doll.
Haruhi also seems to hate showing signs of vulnerability to others. Following her concert performance at the school's culture festival when she and Yuki filled in for two members of the band ENOZ, Haruhi showed awkwardness towards the band members when they thanked her the following day. As Kyon pointed out, Haruhi was not used to receiving praise from others because of how mischievous she regularly acts towards others.

Kyon (キョン, Kyon)
Although Haruhi Suzumiya is the title character, the story is told from Kyon's point of view. He narrates with sarcastic commentary on the various absurdities of Haruhi, club activities and events related to Haruhi. Kyon may also direct his thoughts at Haruhi, which Haruhi might respond to, thus making it unclear whether he is speaking aloud or merely thinking to himself. This could also be interpreted as an ability for Haruhi to occasionally achieve nearly telepathic empathy with Kyon. Kyon's narration follows the format of a Greek Chorus, speaking directly to the audience through internal dialogue. Though a self-described barely-above-average student, Kyon--particularly in the light novels--very often peppers his narration and dialogue with references to ancient mythology, advanced scientific concepts (the laws of thermodynamics, the theory of relativity, etc.), alternately well-known and/or obscure pop culture (he identifies a Marilyn Manson song Haruhi hums), and various esoteric subjects, often comparing the Brigade's situation to a typical role playing game.
He is also the only "normal" human in a club otherwise assembled to include a membership of an alien, esper and a time traveler. This is a cause of curiosity and concern amongst many parties, since Haruhi is "not interested in ordinary humans". Nagato refers to Kyon as an "irregular factor near Haruhi" responsible for an abrupt change in the data around Haruhi. Koizumi goes as far as to investigate Kyon's identity, only to affirm that Kyon is indeed an ordinary human. Asakura herself is quite puzzled by Haruhi's interest in Kyon and asks how it was that he has gotten Haruhi to open up.

Yuki Nagato (長門 有希, Nagato Yuki)
Yuki has a very stoic and introverted personality, preferring simple body language rather than speaking. When prompted to speak, she does so in a very concise manner, always speaking in a monotone and displaying a dispassionate expression. She thinks very rationally, and finds it difficult to communicate with normal humans due to her intelligence and lack of empathy. She enjoys reading, and is seen reading a book in the majority of her appearances, typically of the science fiction or mystery genres. As the series continues, she displays an enjoyment of computer games and develops a sense of humor, although her unchanging facial expressions make it near-impossible to discern whether she is joking or not. Despite her reserved manner, she is reliable and trustworthy, resulting in Kyon trusting her more than other members of the SOS Brigade. Though seemingly cold and devoid of emotions at first glance, Yuki subtly shows a genuinely warm care and concern for her fellow SOS Brigade members, Kyon in particular.

Mikuru Asahina (朝比奈 みくる, Asahina Mikuru)
A shy and timid girl with a childish naïveté, Mikuru is depicted as kind, caring and thoughtful. She easily gets scared or flustered, more so in times whenever Haruhi is involved and makes her do embarrassing things. Apparently prone to daydreaming, she can also be rather clumsy at times. Nevertheless, she can be surprisingly resilient and is capable of recovering from even the most discomforting of situations. However, because of her gentle nature she seems rather helpless most of the time. Kyon sees it as his duty to always watch over and protect her; although when it comes to Haruhi there is no rescue.
Despite being reluctant to continue after the bunny-girl incident, where she was forced to wear a bunny-girl costume and pass out fliers on school grounds, Mikuru remains loyal and dedicated to the Brigade as well as her mission as a time-traveller.

Itsuki Koizumi (古泉 一樹, Koizumi Itsuki)
Itsuki is constantly smiling and always speaks in a formal and polite manner. He is also prone to giving long and detailed explanations, usually illustrated by exaggerated hand gestures. Itsuki has confirmed to Kyon once that his outer personality is merely an artificial image he fakes in accordance to Haruhi's impression of him, and hints that his true character is something quite different, being "less pleasing" in the eyes of others. Maintaining his casual, constantly smiling self, however, is vital for keeping Haruhi's mentality balanced.
Out of the four Brigade members, Kyon is the least fond of Itsuki. He often finds himself annoyed with Itsuki's plastic smile, his willingness to acquiesce to Haruhi's outrageous schemes, playful teasing and his various forays into his psychological and philosophical theories (e.g., omphalos hypothesis, Anthropic principle, etc.). He is also distrustful of Itsuki's intentions, comparing him to Yuki Nagato when it comes to deciphering his expressions. Itsuki's fondness for speculation often causes him to produce explanations for situations involving the SOS Brigade, its members and related events. Ironically, Itsuki can only share his theories with Kyon and also enthusiastically plays different kinds of board games with him to pass the time, despite losing all the time, although Kyon suspects that he may be doing so on purpose.
Although Itsuki was named official second-in-command by Haruhi for providing the Brigade a place for their vacation/mystery investigation (Remote Island Syndrome Part I), this title appears to be little more than formality since, in every aspect, Kyon is still technically Haruhi's right-hand man.

Summary

Kimihiro Watanuki is a high school student plagued by yōkai, supernatural beings magically attracted to him. The creatures are invisible to others, and as a result he feels extremely burdened by them. When he quite literally stumbles into a shop that grants wishes, his life changes drastically.
The shop is owned by Yūko Ichihara, a mysterious, beautiful witch of many names and esoteric renown. The seemingly all-knowing witch offers to grant Watanuki's wish to be rid of his ability to see spirits. However, in exchange, he must pay a price equal to the power required to grant the wish. Yūko discovers that Watanuki is very skilled with his hands and a hard worker. As a result, Watanuki is forced to perform housework and odd jobs for Yūko until he has done enough work for his wish to be granted.
Shortly afterwards, other characters become involved with Watanuki's position, including his love interest, Himawari Kunogi, and his "rival," Shizuka Dōmeki. The three become increasingly "friendly," despite the number of times Watanuki becomes annoyed by Dōmeki's calm demeanor.

Main Characters

Kimihiro Watanuki (四月一日 君尋, Watanuki Kimihiro)

An orphaned boy cursed with the ability to see yōkai (spirits), Watanuki entered into an agreement with Yūko to work for her in exchange for the fulfillment of his wish–to never see spirits again. However, despite the fact that he hates his ability, Watanuki often goes out of his way to help people that he comes into contact with because of his power, even when he is not required to do so by his job. He is also very independent, because he has had to live alone for most of his life, and is an excellent cook and housekeeper.

Watanuki is infatuated with his classmate, Himawari, and frequently tries to impress her in any way he can. He looks on his other classmate, Dōmeki, as a potential rival for Himawari, even though the other boy has never really expressed an interest in her. Because of Dōmeki's ability to repel spirits, Watanuki must spend increasingly more time in his presence, and this has begun to alter their relationship to a sort of grudging friendship. Despite this, Watanuki outwardly reacts in a very hostile way towards Dōmeki, though his actions towards him often speak differently than his words.

Even though Yūko is strikingly beautiful, seductive and often a tease, Watanuki seems to be unfazed being around her and his romantic attention still revolves around Himawari. In fact, Watanuki seemed to be more irritated than anything else when Yūko teases him. But, further, it seems that they develop a very strong and affectionate relationship.

When Watanuki was critically injured in the manga, forcing Himawari and Dōmeki to make a wish of Yūko to save his life and make payments for her services; a Syaoran from Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, whom Watanuki saw briefly when he arrived to make a wish, also paid for his life in advance. Watanuki's relationship with this Syaoran has not been revealed yet.

Yūko Ichihara (壱原 侑子, Ichihara Yūko)
Being one extremely experienced in her industry, Yūko is not foolish enough to give away her real name like Watanuki. That aside, Yūko has served as a major catalyst for Watanuki's transformation, acting somewhat as his mentor. She loves to drink and eat Watanuki's wonderful cooking and dragging Watanuki on crazy outings at the drop of a hat.
Despite this immature and free-spirited attitude, Yūko has been known to be sage-like and serious when the time calls for it. Yūko seems to know the true hitsuzen that Watanuki will follow, and has often offered cryptic messages to warn him of impending danger or a folk tale that he should take a bit more seriously. She also seems to truly care about him, making sure he is safe at night, sending the Kudakitsune (pipe-fox) with him for extra protection, or calling Dōmeki when he needs saving.
Yūko is very powerful when it comes to magic and knowledge and is highly respected within the spirit realm. However, she doesn't often appear to get directly involved in things beyond whatever contact she has with those making wishes. Sometimes, she sends Watanuki to do jobs for her, such as when she granted a wish from Himawari. Yūko seems to take the role of someone playing chess when it comes to the big picture of things that are going on.

Shizuka Dōmeki (百目鬼 静, Dōmeki Shizuka)
Dōmeki is Watanuki's classmate and one-sided rival. He is part of the school's archery club and often participates (and tops) school competitions. He lives by a shrine owned by his late grandfather.
Dōmeki's personality is a total opposite that of Watanuki's. He has a cool, calm and often sarcastic character. Much to the annoyance of Watanuki, he seems to hang around him especially when Watanuki gets a chance to be alone with Himawari.
While Watanuki is monster bait, Dōmeki is monster repellant, due to his grandfather's exorcism abilities that were passed down to him. The fortune teller from volume 2 foresees Dōmeki's arrival into the story, stating that Watanuki will gain a friend that he'll constantly fight with, but their relationship will "run deeper"
Yūko advises that Watanuki stay close to Dōmeki because his very presence drives away the spirits that attack Watanuki, but Watanuki's jealousy and general annoyance with Dōmeki's mellow, laid-back demeanor keep him from liking Dōmeki–or at least admitting that he does. The fact that on several occasions Dōmeki has had to come to Watanuki's rescue doesn't help, especially since most of these situations involve Watanuki passing. out and Dōmeki having to carry him somewhere to rest, or Watanuki falling from a building just to have his wrist caught by Dōmeki at the last second. As payment for his services, Watanuki makes him bento lunches (sometimes with Yūko's nudging, sometimes without), and Dōmeki often demands really difficult or impossible lunch requests for the next day just to irk him.
According to the way he holds his bow, Dōmeki is right-handed. Also, after having his right arm injured while saving Watanuki from falling off of a building, Himawari comments on this being a shame, considering he's right-handed.
Before chapter 119 of the manga, Dōmeki could only see a vacant lot where Yūko's store was supposed to be. Yūko explains in volume 8 of the manga that since Dōmeki does not need anything from her, the shop does not physically or visually exist to him. However, after Watanuki falls out of a window in chapter 117 and is seriously injured, Dōmeki is able to enter Yūko's shop in order to wish to save Watanuki's life.

Himawari Kunogi (九軒 ひまわり, Kunogi Himawari)

Watanuki's main love interest. He has been infatuated with Himawari ever since the beginning of the series and even some cryptic remarks from Yūko like "are you sure she's good luck?" haven't deterred him.

Himawari is caring and kind towards Watanuki, but she has her own reasons to avoid him to become closer to her, as for some reason she was born with the power to cause serious misfortune (although unintended) to those around her, an issue that even brought death to her grandmother and sometimes put her friends in trouble.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

The first left is Kurogane; the second left is Syaoran; the first right is Fay D. Flourite; the second right is Sakura.

Sakura is the princess of Clow kingdom, which is ruled by her older brother, King Tōya. Her childhood friend Syaoran is a young archaeologist. Sakura is revealed to have strange powers when she has a vision of a mysterious symbol and places she has never seen. Meanwhile, Syaoran discovers the same symbol at the ruins he is excavating. He sees Sakura standing on the symbol on the ground. Ghostly wings appear on her back and a mysterious force begins to pull her into the walls of the ruins. Syaoran rescues her in time, but her wings are scattered across dimensions. The High Priest of Clow Kingdom, Yukito, immediately realizes that Sakura's "wings" were the manifestation of her soul and memories; without them, she will die. In order to save Sakura, Syaoran must journey to retrieve her wing's feathers, the fragments of her memories.

Yukito sends Syaoran and the unconscious Sakura to the Dimensional Witch, Yūko, who is one of the main characters in xxxHolic. There he meets Kurogane, a rough-mannered ninja banished from his world by Princess Tomoyo, and Fay D. Flourite, a magician who fled his world to avoid King Ashura. Each of them must pay with what he values most in order to gain the power to cross dimensions. For Kurogane, it is his sword Ginryū, and for Fay, it is the tattoo on his back which regulates his control of his magic. Syaoran, on the other hand, must pay with his relationship with Sakura: even if he is able to retrieve all of her memories, she will never remember anything about him or their relationship. (This sacrifice also pays Sakura's "toll" to Yūko, because what Sakura values most are her memories of and with Syaoran.) Only when the three agree to her terms does Yūko present them with the power to cross dimensions; a white creature named Mokona Modoki.

While traversing through worlds to find Sakura's feathers, the four travellers and Mokona are forced to overcome many dangers and opponents, some of whom are figures from Syaoran's past who wish to collect Sakura's feathers for their own reasons as they are seen to be objects that hold great power.

Main Characters

Syaoran
Real Syaoran: "Syaoran": Kept asleep in a liquid chamber at Fei Wong Reed's palace, with his left eye covered by a piece of cloth, his hands and arms by binding spells and wearing clothes marking Fei Wong Reed's bat symbol. In fact, this Syaoran is the original while the Syaoran at Sakura's side is only a clone that Fei Wong Reed created. This Syaoran is of Clow Reed's bloodline and can thus use magic. He gave his eye and with it half of his heart to his clone to stop Fei Wong's plan temporarily, he also hoped that this action could create a true heart in the clone. Because he had given his eye Syaoran was able to witness all the events the clone did. He was depicted as a villain (it was believed that he was controlling the clone's actions, while it was only the clone's true nature showing) until it was discovered that the protagonist Syaoran is his clone. Now the real Syaoran is the story's protagonist. This Syaoran is able to summon a sword which looks exactly like the one used by Syaoran Li from Cardcaptor Sakura and also uses the same spells.
Clone Syaoran: "The Clone": He is an excellent martial artist and an aspiring archaeologist with extensive knowledge of various languages, histories, and artifacts. His right eye is blind; sometimes, in mysterious dreams, he can see out of the eye and look at a person he recognizes as himself in endless mirrors (see above). Syaoran was found in his childhood wandering the streets without a memory, before he was discovered and adopted by the man he now calls father (Sakura's father in Cardcaptor Sakura), who recently passed away, leaving his foster son to continue his great work. He obtained his sword Hien during his stay at Ōto, which he learned to use from Kurogane, and learned his fighting abilities from now-enemy Seishirō, who can also travel between worlds and says he is looking for vampires. As a clone, he has no mind or conscious and exists only to collect all of Sakura's feathers and to return them to her. Of all the clones created by Fei Wong Reed, he is the closest to what Fei Wong Reed intended. Although he has no magic of his own, he does, however, possess the ability to store and use magic. After the real Syaoran was released and arrived in Tokyo to face him the clone gouged out one of Fay's eyes in order to absorb his magical power.

Sakura
The Princess of Clow Country. Sakura is a cheerful, selfless, and stronghearted being. She states if there was ever something that she could do, she would try her absolute best. She possesses a mysterious power, namely her "wings" that can actually change the world, though it will still be a while before anyone understands what that means. Her wings are the manifestation of her soul, namely her heart and memories. She is targeted by Fei Wong for that very power. After losing her memories, Syaoran gave up their relationship in order to save her. Meaning, even if she regains all of her memories, the one that she would never retrieve would be the knowledge of Syaoran's existence. She is unusually excellent at games of chance, whether it's her mysterious power or, as Chu'Nyan mentioned in the Country of Koryo, extremely lucky from being "a favorite of the gods," meaning she gets such good fortune from being one of the gods' favorite daughter. Her main goal is to find the clone of Syaoran, who has now separated from the group. Later in the series, Sakura makes a deal with Yuuko which leads to the inability to use her right leg and the loss of her status as 'a favorite of gods.' Her soul was in the Dream World, where she communicated with Watanuki Kimihiro regularly. Her body remains with her traveling companions as her soul was lost in a battle between the Syaorans. Eventually, in chapter 178, it is found out that the Sakura who was traveling, is in fact a clone of both the original body and soul created by Fei Wang Reed in order for her "body" to be the body which creates memories of the worlds visited. The real Sakura's soul was seen at the end of chapter 178 [in a flashback], it was released into the tube (this tube looks identical to the tube in the first pages of Tsubasa). Sakura is a crossover character from Cardcaptor Sakura.

Kurogane
A rough-mannered ninja from the world of Nihon (Japan), exiled for his recklessness. He originally possessed the replica of Ginryū, a sword, before giving it to Yūko as price for his deal with her. He obtained a new sword in Ōto called the Sōhi, and taught Syaoran the skills of sword fighting and sensing attacks from the left. In the grand scheme of the series, he is considered 'Yuuko's pawn'. Fei Wong Reed murdered Kurogane's mother in an attempt to make a deal with him, his servitude for the return of his mother. However, this plan was thwarted by Yuuko and Tomoyo when Yuuko warns Tomoyo of this event. This warning leads to Tomoyo ending Kurogane's mad rampage and Kurogane becoming one of her ninjas. He also acquired the Ginryū replica from Tomoyo as the original was to be buried with his mother in place of his father's corpse. Kurogane is an original character and is not from any other Clamp work.

Fay D. Flourite
A laid-back mage from the Country of Celes. He is on the run from King Ashura (a crossover character from RG Veda), whom he put into a near-eternal slumber. Although he seems happy-go-lucky and pretends to know less than he does, there is more to him than meets the eye. His assistant in Celes, currently guarding against the awakening of Ashura, is a very organic-looking Chii (a crossover character from the series Chobits)It is also revealed that Fay created Chii according to his mother's looks. Fay is later turned into a vampire at Kurogane's request, to save his life after Syaoran stole his left eye and half his magic. Because he drank Kurogane's blood mixed with the vampire Kamui's, he is able to feed only from Kurogane. During the Celes arc, it is revealed that the Fay from the beginning of the series is actually named Yuui. Fay and Yuui were twins born in a country where twins were bad omens; it was decided that as long as the twins were miserable, the country would flourish. So, Fay was placed into a tower while Yuui was placed into the pit of sinners. This situation is manipulated by Fei Wong Reed; he makes a deal to each of the twins that if one of them were to die, he'd free the other and so, Fay sacrificed his life to release Yuui. Yuui then becomes 'Fei Wong Reed's pawn' and has two curses placed upon him: one that states if there should ever be someone with greater magic than him, he must kill the person and the other (that activates with Ashura's death) that uses him as the core and closes off all worlds to those who are near him as well as himself. When he first meets Ashura, he states his name as 'Fay' in order to keep his brother 'alive'. He uses one of Sakura's feather in order to keep Fay's body alive and all his efforts were to work towards reviving his brother, which ultimately prove to be futile. The tattoo taken by Yūko at the beginning of the series is considered to be Fay's most important object because he was told that it was a countermeasure against his first curse. However, in reality, as using his magic drains him of his life, the tattoo was actually saving him, instead of others, as it kept his magic from taking too much of his life. Fay is an original character and is not from any other Clamp work.

Mokona Modoki
A creature given to Syaoran, Fay and Kurogane by the Time-Space Witch in exchange for their most-valued possessions. Whichever world he/she (there are no actually gendered pronouns for Mokona) finds himself in, Mokona can contact his sibling Black Mokona. In chapter 133 of Tsubasa, it is revealed that the two Mokonas were created by Yūko and Clow to help prevent the wish Fei Wong wanted to happen. Soel (white Mokona) has a red earring which enhances magical power when used. This was used back in Celes to try and help Kurogane and Fay escape the closing country. Larg (black Mokona) has a blue earring which is a tool used for sealing magic, and hasn't been used yet; although Yuuko has stated that it will be needed in the near future.


Villains

Fei Wong Reed
A mysterious and powerful villain who is after Sakura's feathers. He is later revealed to be a direct descendant of Clow Reed and well aware of the powers of the Dimension Witch. He was the one who imprisoned the real Syaoran and created the Syaoran who is the protagonist of Tsubasa. Though he already possesses the power to cross dimensions like the High Priest of Clow and Princess Tomoyo, he seeks the power of Sakura's wings to "bring back a dream that has already ended" which is foreshadowed in TRC and ×××HOLiC to involve reviving someone who has died (possibly Clow Reed himself). He is ruthless in pursuing this dream and not care on how much blood has to be shed to get that power; those he has killed (or arranged to be killed) include Kurogane's mother, Xing Huo and the real Fai. His true objective is not to obtain Sakura's feathers; rather, the scattering Sakura's memories was to force her to travel between dimensions so her physical memories would contain a map of the dimensions. This is necessary, in combination with the ruins below Clow country, to grant Fei Wong's wish. In Chapter 122 of xxxHoLiC, Yuuko reveals in a monologue that he is responsible for the soul stealing entities featured in Volume 5. Also, in chapter 181 of Tsubasa, Yuuko also reveals that this was when she discovered his whereabouts and that he needs the souls for the sake of his dream. Following the souls leads to his location.
It has also been revealed in chapter 178 of Tsubasa that the Sakura travelling with the Tsubasa group is, in fact, a clone. He has kept the real Sakura's soul alive for the sake of his dream, but the body has "disappeared" (although, in another translation it says her body was "destroyed"). Clone Sakura's soul has been killed, though he still needs her body which was taken by his assistant Kyle Rondart.
In chapter 181 a revelation was made: His location. He is located in a "cut-off" time of Clow Country, from the words of Yuuko.

Xing Huo
Fei Wong's assistant. Not much about her is known besides the fact she is Fei Wong's assistant and was somewhat also a "failed creation". However, as the story progresses her character has more depth. In Volume 15 of the manga she helps the real Syaoran go to Yūko after he awakened (Volume 09 of ×××HOLiC), but stated she can only do it once. Her reason to him was "If the dream does not end." She is killed by Fei Wang shortly afterwards, using a blade similar to the one that killed Kurogane's mother. Her helping Syaoran was inevitable, as Fei Wang Reed states "Considering your origins, I suppose it couldn't have been helped". In Chapter 178 she make a appearance in a flashback of her and Fei while he was explaing the clone soul of Sakura, along with other girls who are also cross over from other Clamp works.

Kyle Rondart
An agent of Fei Wong Reed, first introduced in Jade country as the good doctor who was helping the village with their problems around the time the children started vanishing. He seems kind and sincere at first, but we later find out that through hypnotism he was the one that sends the children (most of them his patients) to the old castle to dig out Sakura's feather. He re-appears in Piffle World as the very same person, knowing that Syaoran and his friends will likely assume he is just another incarnation of himself. In Piffle World he tries to sabotage the race to get Sakura's feather, but later escapes without it. Kyle has recently returned, kidnapping the Clone Sakura's body and taking the feather after the her soul was destroyed. Upon his leaving, Syaoran desperately calls out for him to wait, but it is too late. In chapter 181 he is seen along with Fei Wang and Clone Sakura's body.

Recurring Characters

Yūko Ichihara
Also known as the Dimension Witch or the Space-Time Witch, who resides in modern day Japan, but her shop is technically connected to all dimensions, including the Dream World. She owns a shop in ×××HOLiC, which can grant people their wishes if they in pay the equivalent price. Although Yūko is extremely powerful, to the point of being able to create gods, she cannot act without the request of another beforehand, regardless of whether the events she wishes to pass are selfless or not. She works against Fei Wong Reed.

Seishirō
A mysterious traveler from Syaoran's past who also gained the power to travel between worlds from Yūko. He is currently searching for the vampire twins and, like his younger brother, he is a treasure hunter, not a vampire hunter like originally believed. His abilities include summoning Oni to fight for him. He is able to perform these abilities with the help one of Sakura's feathers, which Syaoran failed to retrieve in their encounter in Ōto country. An experienced fighter, Seishirō was also the one to teach Syaoran his kicking techniques, and apparently can kick just as good.
Recently he has appeared in Nihon Country and discovered that Fai had vampire blood. Initially he thought Fai and his friends knew the location of Subaru, but they didn't. With this revelation, he intended to leave Nihon, but was challenged by Syoaran for the feather. Seishirō remarks how Syaoran is like his father, referring to Syaoran's true father and not Fujitaka, the adoptive father of Syaoran's clone throughout the battle.
After Syaoran unleashed his ultimate spell (all four of his elemental spells combined) on Seishirō, he reclaimed the feather and was sent into the Dream alone to rescue Sakura's soul. With this, he reveals to Fūma and the others that he was planning on giving the feather to him anyway and starts revealing a kinder, nonviolent side of himself to Fai and Kurogane. He then starts a conversation with them about how dangerously powerful The Clone is becoming; but not before he tells them that Syaoran is becoming more powerful as well.
He was last seen viewing the battle between The Clone and Syaoran (both, in a sense, former students of his)

Subaru
One of the vampire twins that Seishirō is hunting, he seems to be the only one whom Seishirō is interested in. Upon arriving in the world 'Tokyo', Subaru fell asleep and does not awaken until Syaoran and his friends arrive. He is the protagonist of the manga Tokyo Babylon and also plays an important role in X where he is one of the seven seals.

Kamui
The other of the vampire twins whom Seishirō is hunting. His true identity is revealed when he attacks Syaoran's clone in an attempt to use his blood to awaken Subaru. Kamui is originally the protagonist in the manga X. He and Subaru gained the power to traverse dimensions together from Yūko.
It should be noted that while Subaru really had a twin in the original Tokyo Babylon and XHokuto, who, even though she was a major character in Tokyo Babylon and also appeared in X, has yet to make an appearance in Tsubasa.

Fūma
Seishirō's younger brother, who is also a treasure hunter and apparent leader of the people of the Tower. He arrived in 'Tokyo' four years earlier along with a feather of Sakura's. Little is known about him right now, but he does seem to have an interest in Kamui and he seems to be friends with Yūko, for whom he retrieves items for whenever he traverses to different dimensions.
Fūma later appeared in the Nihon Country to give Kurogane a robotic arm. He then stayed to witness the battle between his brother and Syaoran. Afterwards, he teased his brother about his strange actions.
Fūma was the antagonist in X, opposite protagonist Kamui. In the original story he and Seishirō were merely on the same team and not blood related at all.

Princess Tomoyo
The princess of a feudal country called Japan/Nihon who sends the ninja Kurogane on the quest that causes him to join the dimension travelers. Tomoyo is a powerful miko sorceress responsible for maintaining the wards of Nihon that protect the country from demons. She is also a yumemi (dreamseer) with the ability to see into other people's, to enter another's dreams, can send trans-dimensional messages through dreams and is able to see the future in her dreams. However, she gave up her dreemseer power to Yuuko as the price for bringing Kurogane, Fay, Syaoran, and Mokona to Nihon. Another incarnation of her appears in Piffle World. A crossover character from Cardcaptor Sakura.

Sōma
Princess Tomoyo's bodyguard, Sōma is a kunoichi, female ninja, of Nihon working alongside Kurogane to protect Tomoyo. She appears to be very loyal and protective to Tomoyo, yelling at Kurogane for getting mad at her.
An alternate version of her was seen in Ōto country where she was a oni hunter alongside her partner. Her weapons were a pair of boomerang daggers.
When the Tsubasa gang came to Nihon country, she welcomed them and was present to view the battle of Syaoran and The Clone. Recently, Tomoyo revealed that Sōma always worries about Kurogane due to his brash actions. Whether or not this means she harbors feelings for him has not yet been revealed.

King Ashura
The King of Celes, who brought Fay up. Fay places Ashura in an enchanted sleep at the beginning of Tsubasa and transforms Chi to serve as Ashura's guard. Ashura is the reason why Fay seeks to travel to multiple dimensions and avoid returning to Celes. Fay, at one point, says that Ashura 'took him out' of someplace, later revealed to be the place Fay (then Yuui) and his twin were imprisoned in their native country. King Ashura finally wakes up from his sleep in chapter 140. It is then revealed that Ashura regularly went on killing sprees among his subjects, and he intended to invoke Fay's curse to kill him. To this end, he placed a tattoo on Fay which would prevent the growth of his powers, while his own grew with every murder, and he would one day be stronger than Fay. He is later killed by a combined effort from Syaoran, Fay, and Kurogane.

Clow Reed
The sorcerer who is tied to the storyline, but does not appear directly as he is already deceased before the story begins. A crossover character from Cardcaptor Sakura. He and Yūko appear to have had a strained but close relationship. Another incarnation, who is also deceased before the story begins, is the father of the Sakura and Tōya of Tsubasa.

Kahoko Hino (日野 香穂子, Hino Kahoko)

The protagonist. Kahoko has a slim figure, with scarlet hair and brown eyes. She is very friendly and is very honest. She is a second year at Seisou Academy and is a General Education department. Hino never played or touched a violin in her life until she meets the strange fairy, Lili. Though at first reluctant about playing the violin, she soon becomes more in depth with her music. She is a polite and considerate girl who puts other's feelings before her own, though at times she can appear rather naive, especially in music. The boys involved in the concours have obvious crushes on her,though she cannot figure that out. She lives in an apartment with her mother and older sister.

Lili (リリ, Riri)
The fairy that lives on the campus of Seisou and is the one who gives Kahoko the magical violin. Lili is the same fairy that promised the creator of the Academy that he will bless the school with music. He flys around the school waiting for people to notice him, and if they respond, he blesses them with a "magical" musical talent or whim.

Len Tsukimori (月森 蓮, Tsukimori Ren)

A surly, blue-haired, violin player who normally behaves contemptuously toward everyone. He was a child prodigy, coming from a family of musicians. His mother, Misa Hamai, is a very famous pianist and his father is a well-known violinist. Because of this, many people take his brilliance for granted. He seems very cold towards those that he comes into contact with, even his admirers, to whom he rarely pays attention to.Before he met Hino he didn't think that music was enjoyable, though after spending time with her, he began to slowly enjoy music and his music changes because of her. He slowly warms up towards Hino and even gives her advice on how to hold and stand properly with the violin. People think that he acts harshly towards Hino, but deep down in his heart he is really concerned about her (though he may not show it). As the series progresses, he realizes his feelings for her. He's slowly affected by Hino and his mother says that he has changed his character. His mother knows that Hino is the one that affected him or changed his personality.

Ryoutarou Tsuchiura (土浦 梁太郎, Tsuchiura Ryōtarō)
Another second year General Education department student, and Hino's friend. He and Kahoko met after he ran into her, nearly knocking her down a staircase, saving her in the nicht of time. Their friendship eventually grows, and she even confesses she knew nothing of violin playing. He is a very gifted pianist but quit playing in public because of an unpleasant experience at a junior concert. Ryotaro is the star of the soccer team, being very skilled at the sport (and even outdoing some third years). After he helped Kahoko in the first round of the concours by being her accompanist, he, as well, joined the concours. He does not like Len Tsukimori, as they often get into many disagreements. His feelings for Hino gradually deepens as the series progresses.

Kazuki Hihara (火原 和樹, Hihara Kazuki)
Hihara is an energetic third year at Seisou who plays the trumpet. He is tall and in shape (he runs every morning), and has green hair and eyes. He's aggressively friendly and outgoing and has little sense of social boundary. Hihara has an enormous appetite, as he is constantly eating (especially baked goods). He quickly befriends Kahoko. In the middle of the series, he starts to call Kahoko "Kaho-chan", instead of the usual "Hino-chan", this suggesting he has a rather obvious crush on the girl. He also admits he has a crush to Azuma, saying "don't make fun of me" when asked. Basketball is one of his favorite sports.

Azuma Yunoki (柚木 梓馬, Yunoki Azuma)
A student in his third year, he appears to be a very considerate and kind, this helps to hide a meaner and more intimidating man. He is tall and slim, his hair a deep purple and longer than that of the female characters. He comes from a family of flower arranging. He also used to play the piano, but due to the law that the youngest son cannot be better that his brothers, he turned to the flute. The charming and considerate flautist "prince" of the harem, he has a worshipful trio of fans that hate any girl he shows any attention to, Kahoko in particular. He has strong feelings for Kahoko, but acts like he really hates her.

Keiichi Shimizu (志水 桂一, Shimizu Keiichi)
A blond 'bishounen' and also is the youngest male competitor, he plays the cello. He is very drowsy all the time and often seems confused. Shimizu can be found sleeping anywhere, anytime, so Kahoko first meets him lying on the ground fast asleep. His life seems to revolve around music (he tells Hino that he sleeps, wakes up, plays the cello, then repeats the process, other than eating and visiting the library), and he loves to play his instrument. He enjoys reading and studying music history and structures of instruments. In time, he becomes interested in Hino because of her carefree music.

Shouko Fuyuumi (冬海 笙子, Fuyuumi Shōko)
The other female competitor from the school, she plays the clarinet. Fuyuumi is a first year at Seisou, a small, slim girl with cyan hair and eyes. She is very hesitant and easily intimidated, and very shy. During the training camp, her vacation house was used, indicating she comes from a wealthy family. She looks up to Kahoko as a role model and wants to be like her.

Nami Amou (天羽 菜美, Amou Nami)
A brunette female general education student in her second year. She is from the press club and is set to report on the contest. Most often she does crazy things just to get the "juiciest" articles. She befriends Kahoko and Fuyuumi.

Hiroto Kanazawa (金澤 紘人, Kanazawa Hiroto)
The lazy music teacher with greyish-lavender hair who is the head of the competition. He is always seen smoking, and sometimes when outdoors he is seen feeding his cat. He seems to know about Lili, but claims that he cannot see him. In the anime, his talent is singing.

Shinobu Ousaki (王崎 信武, Ōsaki Shinobu)

He is a Seisou graduate, with reddish-orange hair and who is also in his 3rd year in a university currently and as a support teacher for the orchestral club. In the past when he was still in high school, he won first place in the competition. His reason for playing the violin is to make listeners happy. He has a gentle heart, and he was the one who cheered up Kahoko after she started questioning her abilities of relying on the magical violin compared to the music department's students hard work in episode 12. He also enjoys teaching young children to play the violin, and has even gotten some of the concour participants to help him with it.

Lili (the fairy is beside Kahoko Hino)

Hino Kahoko is a second year student at a Seisou Academy, a school where the students are divided into two groups: those who wear the gray uniforms, the General Education students, and those who wear the cream colored blazers, who have chosen a musical instrument as their course of study. One day Lili, the mischievous musical fairy who had blessed the original founder of the school, finds Kahoko running late to class. Delighted that she is one of that he is visible to, Lili grants Kahoko a magical violin, and a place in the school's annual musical competition, which many students in the music department wish to partake in.

(Kahoko is the girl who plays the violin) Kahoko refuses, only to be pressed on by the fairy, who constantly nags her until she finally gives way to his pleads. She reluctantly accepts the instrument.

As she practices her pieces, Kahoko is amazed that she can play any piece on the violin as long as she knows the tune.
